The Style Preview Debut – 2nd November 2017

The Style Preview, by Laura Leigh

On the 2nd of November in a private invitation-only audience at Laura Leigh’s beautiful award-winning salon in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the first ‘Style Preview’ had its debut.

Laura Leigh, with her finger on the pulse of fashion, created an evening to show case her top tips for the season, drawing her inspiration from the London Fashion Week runways, and her own inimitable sense of style. Models showcased this season’s must have hair colours and styles, and were dressed by Laura head to toe in Karen Millen from the brand’s Cheltenham boutique.

So, by candle light and with the crowd settled in with balloon glasses of fabulous Cotswold Gin, Laura Leigh introduced her first Style Preview.

THE LOOKS

Foreword from Laura Leigh

“Whether we’re talking fashion, beauty or hair, metallics have never been so on trend.

We’ve seen models strutting their stuff down the runway in head to toe silver styles at London Fashion Week, inspiring influencers to also up the ante with some incredible metallic looks. The creative team at Laura Leigh is ready to help you achieve these coveted looks with the launch of L’Oreal MetalsWith five high-shine shades – including Silver Star and Pink Ash which reflects light to achieve that polished metallic finish – these shades provide a glossy, reflective, on-trend colour. That’s why the first Style Preview centres around these shades, and how to wear them.”

THE LOOK: Silver Star

New technique: Metallic lights

The Silver Star look is created using a silver hair shade from the new ‘Metals’ collection by L’Oreal, which achieves a beautifully polished finish for this on-trend look.

Whether you want to stay light and go for a silver blonde tone, or even go to the dark side with sultry, ashier hues, Silver Star achieves a lusciously polished finish to let your high-shine tones gleam.

Laura’s Tips: This look says I command attention!

The ‘greyage’ hair trend is here to stay and is probably the most popular of all. A-listers and models alike are wearing this cool trend. The colour makes a statement all by itself. Keep your styling simple but add hints of embellishment. Try metallic makeup, accessories and shoes.

Georgina wore a beautifully embellished mesh sleeve dress. A classic fit-and-flare silhouette. The geometric embroidery on the long sleeves is designed by hand at Karen Millen in-house atelier and the silhouette is enhanced by panels at the waist. Try yours with ankle-cuff heels and a pared-back clutch.

THE LOOK: Supernova Root Smudge

New Technique: Root Smudge

Striking dark roots that are smudged to melt into softer gradients of colour. So what is gloss smudging exactly? It’s a lot like what it sounds…smudging colour at the root of your hair to help it blend better and hide the line of where the highlight begins and ends.

“Think of it almost like an eyeliner with a smudger at the end,” Laura Leigh explained. “It takes out the deliberate look of the highlight at the root.”

Highlights that look more natural AND last longer? You can see why gloss smudging is about to be our new best friend!

Laura’s Tips:  This look says Glamour-Puss

Molly wore a limited edition oversized fur coat from Karen Millen. This luxurious faux fur, with an oversized relaxed fit, features a pale blue and black enlarged leopard print. It’s irresistibly soft. Hang this coat over your shoulders with your favourite LBD for a dose of old school glamour.

THE LOOK: Pumpkin Spice

New Technique: Copper Foilyage

Combine this season’s hottest highlighting technique with bright and bold copper and you have Pumpkin Spice! Using this hot new highlighting technique, a balayage effect is created by having the lighter hair colour painted onto sections of the hair. The difference is that each section of hair is then wrapped in foil, as you would with bleaching, to intensify the colour. A deeper copper tone is applied throughout the rest of the hair.

You don’t have to stop at copper, there are numerous variations on tones of red to choose from, from rose gold to strawberry blonde and even burnt orange!

Your stylist will be able to combine the right shades of red to suit your complexion. Reds tend to fade, so make sure you invest in products designed for colour treated hair and book regular appointments with your colourist to see your colour through the Winter.

Product Tips: For Winter colour care, Laura recommends Kérastace ‘Reflection Bain Chromatique’ shampoo, enriched with chelators, UV filters and Vitamin E, alongside Kérastace ‘Reflection Fondant Chromatique’ conditioner, which intensifies colour with its powerful rice bran formula. To protect, complete the treatment with Kérastace Radiance Beautifying Oil enriched with Oleo-Complexe and Imperial Tea.

Laura’s Tips: This look says show stopper!

Belle wore a Karen Millen tailored button coat in a soft faux fur with oversized cuffs and a tailored skirt with a wrap silhouette in a gorgeous gold jacquard fabric, with a sleek buckle.

Copper red is a bright and bold hair colour, so you’ll want to tone down your overall look, and especially your makeup, by sticking to neutral and monochrome shades.

THE LOOK: Tigers Eye

New Technique: Strobing

Tigers Eye is a semiprecious rock with distinctive gold, bronze and deep brown stripes. The Tigers Eye hair trend applies these shades to your hair to give you a warm, integrated depth of colour. And just as the hand-painting technique made balayage so favoured, so too is it making the Tigers Eye hair trend extremely popular. The key to getting it right? Ask for caramel highlights paired with a warm, or dark chocolate base so it doesn’t look too bronze.

Laura’s Tips: This look says I’m sophisticated and forever stylish

Laurie wore a camel coloured coat and an orange knitted jumper (as seen on Holly Willoughby). This burnt orange knit is key for the season and compliments the colours of Tigers Eye perfectly.

After the runway, guests enjoyed more delicious canapes and left with goody bags full of super products, from Laura Leigh, Molton Brown, Cowley Manor and more.
