In anticipation of our re-opening on 12th April, we are proud to be participating in a new nationwide campaign that gives thanks to NHS nurses and celebrates the Great British Hair industry. As part of the #Hair4Heroes campaign, we’ll be pledging one hour of every stylist’s time per week to giving NHS nurses a free cut and blow dry as a heartfelt thank you for their work during their pandemic. We’ll then nominate three further salons to do the same via our Instagram account, in the hope that the campaign will spread to all four corners of the UK, giving nurses the chance to visit their local salon nationwide. Keep track of our #Hair4Heroes journey on Instagram @lauraleighhairbeauty as the campaign continues. NHS nurses can contact us by email info@lauraleighhairdressing.co.uk to book their free cut and blow dry or call the front of house team on 01242 530598 for more information.
This campaign will run from 12th April until 30th September.

Currently, a major hair concern among women is not one of the usual suspects like dryness or damage. It’s hair-fall. When women search for solutions, they see medical products, mostly dedicated to men first. Kérastase is now addressing the issue head on with a new range of products designed to help combat dual causes of hair-fall.
Why do women experience hair fall?
Either strands are lost from the root as part of the hair cycling process, or can break off mid-shaft, due to external stressors and styling habits. Both processes reduce the number of strands and devitalise the hair overall.
Natural Fall – Each individual hair follicle has its own natural growth cycle. At the end of this cycle the bulb becomes progressively detached from the scalp and hair falls out in the shower, on your brush or on your clothes.
Fall from breakage – External factors and daily stressors such as heat-styling and environmental pollution can cause the fibre to weaken. Hair breaks off in the middle, creating thinner, weaker hair overall. With breakage, the hair is still growing from the bulb, but daily exposure to external aggressors can trigger inflammation at the follicle as well.
What triggers hair fall?
Styling tools – Heat styling causes dryness and weakens the hair shaft, leading to an increased rate of breakage that causes hair to fall and feel thin.
Pollution & weather – External seasonal and environmental factors such as pollution and UV rays can affect hair-fall.
Stress – Studies have shown a direct link between stress and some types of hair-fall – the good news is that this can often be reversible.
Hormonal changes – Hormonal changes can lead to an altered hair renewal process.
Diet – A restrictive diet or overload of certain vitamins and supplements in extreme cases has been linked to hair-fall.
Genesis is the first range by Kérastase to treat both kinds of hair-fall – at the root and from fiber breakage, for all women, in all lifestyles, with any degree of hair fall. All women go through periods in life where they experience increased levels of hair-fall. Take action and give your hair the care it needs with Genesis. Genesis addresses two of the causes of hair-fall; Hair falling due to stress on the hair fibre & Hair falling from the mid-lengths due to breakage.

Heading into 2020 with a fresh new haircut. What better way to start a new year than to chop off some dead weight
As we know hair trends are constantly changing but the latest hair trends are definitely getting shorter. Perfect for starting fresh. If you prefer to keep your hair longer you might find you want to add a fringe- AKA ‘Shaggy bangs’ an easy way to instantly update your look with minimum commitment. If you are up for a new look you might find inspiration in a modelesque pixie, or a timeless, jaw-grazing bob that looks good on everyone.
The Jawline Bob
The bob length for 2020 will stop exactly at the jawline. The look should be crisp and clean. The blunt bob should cut like a razor, right at the jaw. Avoid any severe layering and the shape will sharply highlight your neckline and jaw like a strong and symmetrical frame around the face. Adding a touch of texture to ends saves a blunt bob from looking harsh.
The cool thing about a short bob, cut in a blunt manner, is that the styling opportunities are endless. Give it bouncy volume, waves or a sleek, shiny finish, part it down the middle or toss it to one side.
The Angled Bob
If your hair texture is curly or wavy, and you want a more lived-in shape to match, talk to your stylist about a slight A line slant, gradually building more length and weight at the front to balance the shape.
The Gamine Pixie
We’re eagerly awaiting the pixie’s comeback in the new year. Style the gamine pixie. A play on the British term for boy-ish which we predict is on its way to becoming a 2020 trend.
Shaggy Bangs
The ’70s-inspired shaggy bang is back for 2020,
It’s all about the fresh, textured movement of shaggy bangs. It’s a cool add-on to a cut of any length. If you have long hair — and don’t want to go short — pull 2020 style inspiration from Selena Gomez who recently stepped out in London with a long, gradually-layered cut, complete with a long fringe.

With the impacts of climate change becoming ever more apparent, we have been looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment we are making it our main objective in 2020 to become a more sustainable salon.
As much as we’re all trying to cut down on single-use items, it’s unavoidable for some of our in-salon treatments. Where possible, we have changed to recyclable or biodegradable alternatives to take away the single-use-guilt. The beauty girls are using biodegradable cotton buds and their new brow brushes are made from bamboo rather than plastic. We are using the NEW & IMPROVED L’Oreal Professionnel hair colour tubes which are 100% recyclable saving 7 tons of plastic per year.
NATURAL HAIR PRODUCTS
We are really excited to finally offer a 99% natural hair care range for clients to use at home. These new sulphate-free professional haircare products by L’Oreal are the latest natural products for earth-loving beauty lovers to get their hands on. The eco-designed shampoos are square-shaped to hold a maximum amount of product in a minimum amount of plastic. This shape also means that the products stack together perfectly, so that shampoos are better palletised and transportation space is optimised. To help women to consume even more responsibly, L’Oréal Professionnel mentions both the origin and function of most of the ingredients present in each Source Essentielle product, on the back of the bottle. As with all the other products, the brand does not just describe the 96% naturally derived ingredients in detail. It also adds that the ‘4% remaining ingredients are necessary to guarantee the sensorial qualities and preservation of the formula. The bottles are refillable in the salon up to 3 times at half the price saving you money too…
OUR FIRST NATURAL HERBAL HAIR COLOUR
From only 3 ingredients harvested in India, L’Oréal Professionnel has brought together the best of nature and scientific research to create Botanēa. Henna, Indigo and Cassia a are at the heart of the first 100% herbal hair colour. These three herbal powders deliver personalised colour results, from light blonde to dark brown, and white hair is blended for a natural result. L’Oréal Professionnel launched a 3-year-programme to responsibly source Botanēa in India. Our goal is to develop the social economic situation of farmers with local cooperatives, but also to improve and share good agricultural practices in order to create sustainable sources of income.
RECYCLING
In conjunction with Cheltenham Borough Council we now have a recycling system at the salon for plastics, glass, and paper.
SAVE WATER
It’s no surprise that we use a lot of water, but we are taking steps to use less. We are using ‘eco heads’ to reduce the amount of water per hair wash. When it comes to laundry, we wait until we have a full load before putting a wash on, opting for a 30°C setting.
We will continue to look for ways to limit our impact on the environment wherever we can.

Forget bright highlights & rainbow colours, this year is all about soft nude blended shades.
If you’re an avid nude-lipstick or nail polish wearer, and are looking for a hair colour to match, this natural-looking trend might just convince you to book your next colour appointment. From balmy vanilla tones to shiny matte brunettes.
Nude Ombré is the low-maintenance shade all the A-listers and influencers are loving. Instead of bold colours or contrasts, natural colours are the ones in demand. Whether blonde, brunette or somewhere in between – this look takes your natural hair colour as the focus. Techniques such as ‘Balayage & Gloss Smudging’ or ‘Micro Balayage’ are the techniques to create this look – ones that enhance your natural base by adding depth with subtle highlights and/or low-lights.
Nude hair is not only a super natural alternative, but it is low maintenance. Regular colouring is rarely necessary and the health of the hair can recover quicker through these more gentle colouring methods.
